Cerritos Crime Recap: Residential Burglaries, Calls for Service Increase

Editor's Note: The information below comes from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Cerritos Station's weekly crime summary. 

Part I felony crimes were up by four cases compared to the previous week after 27 were recorded. Residential burglaries, commercial/”other structure” burglaries and vehicle burglaries increased. Robberies, locker burglaries and vehicle thefts were down. 325 calls for service were handled by patrol deputies, up from 292 a week ago. The 2013 weekly average in calls for service is now 300.

There were no robberies reported last week.

Residential burglaries were up from one to six. Three of the recent crimes were attributed to open/unlocked doors or windows. Two windows were shattered and one was pried. Tools, jewelry, cameras, and laptop computers were taken. The 2013 weekly average in residential burglaries is currently 4.2.

There were three commercial /“other structure” burglaries investigated. There were two the week before. Unlocked detached garages were targeted resulting in the theft of tools, a helmet and a hair cutting kit. Stereo equipment was removed from an open business. The 2013 weekly average in “other structure”/commercial burglaries is 2.5.

No locker burglaries were investigated. One was reported the week before.

Vehicle burglaries were up from two to nine last week. High-volume commercial parking lots were the crime scenes in seven cases. Six involved SUVs and stereo items were removed in two incidents. Other property reported stolen included laptop computers, clothes, bags, hair products, wallets, purses, credit cards, an iPad and a camera. The new 2013 weekly average in vehicle burglaries is 6.4.

Vehicle thefts dropped from eight to four last week. Two were stolen from high-volume commercial parking lots. Two were SUVs, one was a Honda and an Acura was also taken. The 2013 weekly average in vehicle thefts is now 4.4.
