Barber Yard environmental report details soil management for 1,250 home plan (orovillemr.com) — Plans for 1,250 new homes at Chico's Barber Yard site are moving forward after an environmental impact report detailed how contaminated soil will be contained and monitored. The report explains long-term management of the asphalt-capped area, drainage impacts near Comanche Creek Greenway, and how historic Diamond Match buildings could be reused as commercial space in this major south Chico mixed-use project.
   

2. Chico Paper Company hosting mini art show this month (actionnewsnow.com) — Chico Paper Company is inviting residents to submit tiny artworks, no larger than 6-by-6 inches, for its first Mini Art Show at 345 Broadway. You can turn in one piece by Sept. 19, then return to vote Sept. 26–Oct. 2, with winners announced Oct. 3 and prizes donated by local businesses.
   

3. Chico man in critical condition after motorcycle vs van crash on Tuesday (actionnewsnow.com) — A Chico man is in critical condition after his motorcycle, reportedly speeding, collided with a van Tuesday night at E. 1st Avenue and Neal Dow Avenue, closing the intersection for about four hours. Chico Police say no charges are planned for the van's driver and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact their Traffic Division.
   

4. Help us Choose Next Year's Book in Common (csuchico.edu) — Chico State and Butte College are inviting Chico-area residents to help choose the 2027–28 Book in Common, a title meant to spark shared conversations across campus and the wider community. After this year's selection, The AI Con, you can now submit book suggestions online or contact coordinator Kristen Mahlis with questions.
   

5. Dominic Scelzi Grateful for Opportunity With CJB Motorsports (speedwaydigest.com) — Chico race fans get a shout-out as Dominic Scelzi reflects on a 10-race stint with CJB Motorsports that included several hard-charging nights at Silver Dollar Speedway. He advanced through the field in multiple Chico features during the recent West Coast swing, saying the experience helped him learn a new program and boost the team's season points.
