• San Juan School Board member resigns. How will seat be filled? (citrusheightssentinel.com) — San Juan Unified is filling a newly vacated Trustee Area 1 school board seat by provisional appointment, rather than an immediate special election, with applications due Oct. 2 and interviews planned Oct. 13. Leaders contrasted this with a 2023 Citrus Heights-area vacancy, when strong local pressure led to a special election, and residents can still petition for one within 30 days of the appointment.
• Your guide to California's 7th Assembly District race (sacbee.com) — Voters in Citrus Heights are part of California's 7th Assembly District, where Republican incumbent Josh Hoover faces Democrat Amy Slavensky in November. The district, which also includes Folsom and Rancho Cordova, has slightly more registered Democrats than Republicans, making this a competitive race that will help shape state policy on schools, housing, and healthcare.
• From plumbing to preserving history, Jerry Ray Still remembered for a life of service (citrusheightssentinel.com) — Community members gathered at Rusch Park to honor Jerry Ray Still, affectionately known as "Mr. Citrus Heights," for his decades of service to local schools, history, and neighbors. From running a longtime plumbing business to helping build the San Juan High School Legacy Exhibit and supporting the Citrus Heights Historical Society, he left a deep mark on the city's identity and alumni community.
