A Community Grieves Over the Loss of One Its' Own

A family member remembers a kind and hard-working man

The community continues to grieve the loss of Michael Patrick Rodriguez, Claremont resident who was killed  when he was struck by a train near Indian Hill.

Claremont Police continue their investigation into what caused Rodriguez to walk into the path of the train on June 4. The 60-year-old was struck and killed about 6 a.m. near the tracks Indian Hill Boulevard and Santa Fe Street, authorities said.

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reported that a pair of headphones was found at the scene of the incident.

A memorial has been set up in honor of Rodriguez near the spot of the accident. A comment by his niece, Susie Bloom was posted on Keeping the GOOD in Our Neighborhood’s Facebook page. We include it below.

“My uncle was a wonderful hard working man who loved his family dearly, he was responsible, funny, loved music (he was a guitar player) and an amazing role model. This all does not make sense how this happened knowing how he was.

It sounds like the Claremont community is a wonderful place filled with people who care about their neighbors and speaking on behalf of my family we appreciate your support and prayers.   The picture is Uncle Mike and Aunt Margie taken on Sunday. They would have been married 30 years this August.

Thank you! Susie.”
