Annual Trail Dusters Ride Set for Saturday

The last day to register for the two-day event is Friday.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and the count's Department of Parks and Recreation are hosting the "Antonovich Trail Dusters Ride" Saturday and Sunday at the Marshall Canyon Park and Nursery.

Staging for the event is at the Fred Palmer Equestrian Center, 6550 Stephens Ranch Road in La Verne.

The last day to register for the ride is Friday.  The event kicks of at noon Saturday and includes hayrides, volleyball, horseshoes, unsupervised trail rides, hiking, and dinner with optional overnight dry-camping (self-contained, with no showers or water available for campers).

There will be limited horse corrals and campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

On Sunday, check in time starts at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast and a supervised ride led by beginning at 9 a.m.  The day will conclude with a traditional barbecue and live country western music.

The ride is estimated to be three to four hours with two rest stops and refreshment breaks.   Riding conditions include a combination of rolling hills, some semi-steep hills and level areas. 

Tickets prices per person are $20.00 for Saturday and $30.00 for Sunday.  The ticket prices for both days are $45.00 (horse rental not included).

Non-riders are welcome and riders under the age of eighteen must be accompanied by an adult.  No stallions or dogs are allowed.

The “Antonovich Trail Dusters Ride” began in 1992 and due to popularity, it culminated into bi-annual events.  The purpose of the event is to promote public awareness of the vast trail system throughout Los Angeles County which connects with other municipal trail systems for the enjoyment of trail enthusiasts. 

The event is sponsored by the supervisor and the county Department of Parks and Recreation in conjunction with Marshall Canyon Mounted Assistance Unit, Bonelli Park Mounted Assistance Unit, Walnut Creek Mounted Assistance Unit, Whittier Narrows Mounted Assistance Unit and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Posse Units.
