Ligeti's Homage to Brahms

Heed the call of the horn! When György Ligeti was asked to write a trio for piano, violin, and horn, he “heard the sound of a horn as if coming from a distant forest in a fairy tale.” Though the trio’s title and instrumentation nod to Brahms, Ligeti’s composition is perhaps more deeply inspired by the fantasy pieces of Schumann. Follow the thread of three unique composers, each intertwined, in this program featuring Schumann’s Violin Sonata No. 1, Ligeti’s Hommage à Brahms, and Dennis LeClaire’s Three Fairy Tales.
