Recycling food and organic waste helps to reduce harmful methane emissions that contribute to global warming, and is consistent with the goals of the Sustainable City Plan. Approximately 15% of current residential customers are currently enrolled in the City’s residential organic recycling pilot program, which began in February 2021. The program is currently only open to residents on select routes and in certain geographic areas.  The pilot program has been largely successful and the City is looking to expand the service to all Claremont customers in January 2022.

For those currently in the program, there has been some repeat contamination, so residents are reminded that palm fronds and plastic film and bags should not be placed in the green barrel. Clear plastic bags that contain food waste are permissible, but no other plastics. Palm fronds belong in the black trash container.
