Claremont Sanitation Rates To Be Increased

Claremont City Council members approved an increase in sanitation fees during a public hearing held during the May 14 council meeting.

The ordinance adopting an increase in was passed unanimously.

The increase is necessary because the Sanitation Fund is an enterprise fund, which is required to cover all expenses through fees collected for service, Ramos said in a report to the council and to the Parks, Hillsides and Utilities Committee.

It is also City policy to maintain a minimum of 15 percent fund balance for use for contingencies, emergencies and vehicle replacement, he wrote. The increase will keep that balance officials said.
