Etiwanda HS Welcomes it Newest Principal, Dr. Mac Wolfe

He will succeed retiring Etiwanda Principal Don Jaramillo, who has held the position for the past six years

A career in education came naturally to Etiwanda High School’s newest principal, Dr. Mac Wolfe. You could say it’s in his DNA.

“I came from a long line of educators – my grandfather, grandmother, uncles and aunts,” said Wolfe, a former teacher and coach and current assistant principal who will assume the top spot at Etiwanda beginning next school year. “My grandfather was a principal, and (becoming one) was always in the back of my mind, partly because of the way he described it: Having a group of individuals working together to improve the lives of others. The way I see it, principalship is about service.”

Wolfe, a 1995 graduate of Ontario High School, has spent the past 17 years in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District – as a Spanish teacher and assistant basketball coach at Rancho Cucamonga High School, an assistant principal at Colony High School, and, since 2018, assistant principal at Etiwanda.

He will succeed retiring Etiwanda Principal Don Jaramillo, who has held the position for the past six years.

“Mr. Jaramillo has done a marvelous job of moving this school forward,” Wolfe said. “I want to build on our reputation and promote the great things we’re doing in the classroom and outside the classroom.”

Wolfe’s appointment comes as Etiwanda is about to unveil its new 98,000-square-foot education center that will include 50 classrooms in four separate wings, all flanking an 800-seat auditorium. The state-of-the-art center, which will open in time for the 2019-2020 academic year, features five science labs and classrooms for general instruction, world languages and the arts.

Along with other schools in the Chaffey District, Etiwanda is widely recognized for academic excellence and student performance across all socioeconomic levels. The percentage of graduates passing the A-G coursework needed for admission into the Cal State of University of California systems has risen dramatically over the past five years – ranking among the highest in San Bernardino County and well above the state average. This past year, Etiwanda was recognized this as a Silver Award winner in U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of top high schools in the country.

“It’s a good time to be an Etiwanda Eagle,” Wolfe said.

Dr. Mathew Holton, Superintendent of the Chaffey District, said Wolfe’s experience and passion for education made him the ideal choice to lead Etiwanda High School into the future.

“The work done the past six years by Mr. Jaramillo and his team has had an tremendous impact on the community as well as the lives of thousands of students and alumni. Mac Wolfe has been part of that team the past two years, and I’m excited for him to take on this new role,” Holton said.

Wolfe earned his bachelor’s degree in Spanish Teaching from Brigham Young University, master’s degrees in education from Cal State San Bernardino and National University, and his doctorate of education degree from the University of La Verne.

He and his wife of nearly 19 years have six children, including two currently attending Etiwanda High School. When he is not at school, he is an avid reader and loves to hike, play basketball and watch football with his family.
