Girl Hit by Vehicle Near La Verne Middle School, Airlifted to USC Trauma Center

Police say it's believed the middle school girl stepped into traffic and was stuck by a vehicle before school started Monday.

A La Verne middle school student was hospitalized Tuesday with injuries she sustained while being hit by a car a day earlier.

La Verne police tell Patch they are assisting the California Highway Patrol with the investigation, since the incident happened on the San Dimas side of Ramona Avenue near Ramona Middle School, around 8:45 a.m. Monday.

"It was a student who was dropped off in front of the school and it looks like she stepped into traffic and was struck by a vehicle," La Verne Lt. Frayeh told Patch Tuesday.

Though Frayeh didn't have all the specifics on the girl's injuries since CHP is handling the main investigation, he did say they were "non life threatening," including a possible broken leg.

He said she was taken to the USC Medical Center's trauma facility by helicopter.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department also assisted, he said.
