Local fans can also track Newberg High's busy week across water polo, football, volleyball, soccer, and cross country, plus upcoming matches and tournaments that may feature trips to California later this season.
   

2. Composer Vanished After Job Interview. His Body Was Found in the Ocean a Day Later (people.com) — Claremont United Methodist Church is mourning choir director and composer Braden Pontoli after he was found dead off Malibu's coast on Sept. 9, with officials ruling his death a suicide. The 36‑year‑old musician, active with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, had last been seen in Santa Monica after a job interview, and the church is asking the community to support his loved ones.
   

3. L.A. County Invests $220 Million in Affordable Housing (koreadaily.com) — Claremont is slated to get a 74‑unit affordable housing development as part of Los Angeles County's new $220 million investment in 20 projects. The countywide program will help low‑income families, seniors, and formerly homeless residents, though demand for funding far exceeds what's available, underscoring the region's ongoing housing shortage.
   

4. 3 California schools crack Forbes' top 10 colleges list. What to know (visaliatimesdelta.com) — Several Claremont‑area colleges, including Claremont McKenna, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, and Scripps, earned strong spots in Forbes' new America's Top Colleges rankings. The list highlights student outcomes like debt, salaries, and leadership, giving local families another data point as they weigh higher‑education options both in town and across California.
