Potential Smoking Ban for Claremont Would Not Include Enforcement

The Claremont City Council is considering a smoking ban for outdoor areas.

The Claremont City Council is taking a stand against second-hand smoke in public areas of the city. Sort of.

The city council will review a resolution at its meeting tomorrow night that could provide the funds for at least 74 new signs around the city that will tell smokers to take their habit elsewhere.

The signs would be slated for 10 different city entrance points and 64 light pole signs.

However, the resolution wouldn't include any new provisions for enforcement of the ban. If smokers choose to ignore the signs, the city won't punish them.

Read the full text of the potential resolution on the city's website.
