Renowned Claremont Artist Karl Benjamin Dies at 86

Benjamin was honored in 1959 as one of four Abstract Classicists from the Los Angeles area.

A longtime Claremont resident, Pomona College artist-in-residence and teacher at Claremont Graduate University, Karl Benjamin has died at 86.

Benjamin died yesterday of congestive heart failure, according to The Los Angeles Times.

He was an acclaimed painter of colorful, abstract and geometric patterns that earned him high praise from the critics and arts community in Los Angeles and throughout the world.
