Police Tranquilize Rancho Cucamonga Bear That Caused Lockdown at 2 Schools
Police safely tranquilized the bear after corralling it into a tree near Vineyard Junior High School. The bear will be relocated.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA — A black bear that caused two Rancho Cucamonga schools to go on lockdown Wednesday morning has been safely tranquilized and will be relocated, police said.
The black bear was safely tranquilized, and will be relocated by the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife.

The bear was first spotted in a backyard near Lemon and Hellman Avenues, police said. Later, the bear started to roam in a neighborhood near Vineyard Junior High, according to the Alta Loma school district.

The school, as well as Highland Avenue Christian School went on lockdown Wednesday morning.

The bear was eventually corralled in a tree on Hermosa and Highland Avenues near Vineyard Junior High, according to police. The Department of Fish and Wildlife then responded to the scene and tranquilized the bear, police said.
Deputies filmed the bear casually strolling down a Rancho Cucamonga street on a dash camera during the morning pursuit.
