Serial Rapist Will Not Released into Los Angeles Community

Efforts to keep Christopher Evans Hubbart away from a Lake Los Angeles community were successful, according to an LA County Supervisor.

Christopher Evans Hubbart, a serial rapist who briefly lived in Claremont and is set to be released from a state hospital, will not be released into Palmdale, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich said today.

The county supervisor released a statement on the issue:

“Our Lake Los Angeles community has been successful in preventing Hubbart’s release to their neighborhood. This is a significant victory -- however, the fight is not over.  Another Los Angeles County community may still be identified by the state which will start this process all over again.”

Hubbart has admitted to raping 26 women in the Los Angeles area in the early 1970’s and an additional 15 in the San Francisco Bay area in the early 1980’s, officials said. His previous paroles were revoked numerous times due to assaulting women, his mental condition and threat to public safety, according to officials.

In May, Santa Clara Superior Court Judge Gilbert Brown ruled that Hubbart should be released from prison.

Following news of his release, concern was raised among Claremont residents that he might return to Claremont where his family lived briefly.
