Sheriff's: Father Helps Apprehend Man Accused of Being a Predator

The father of a young girl detained the man after his daughter spotted him near their home, according to deputies.

The family of a young female who San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies said was almost forced into performing a sex act by an armed man is being credited with detaining the suspect and handing him over to authorities.

Brandon Barbour, 20, of Chino Hills was arrested Wednesday, June 12. Officials suspect Barbour approached the girl, whose age was not released, at 7:30 a.m. June 11 as she walked to school in Chino Hills.

Barbour reportedly brandished a knife and ordered the girl to perform a sex act with him, officials said. However, the victim fled and reported the incident to school officials, who then called authorities.

Deputies got a description of the man and his vehicle the day of the incident, but a search of the area did not turn up a suspect, sheriff’s officials said.

The next day, about 7 p.m., the girl reportedly spotted Barbour walking through her apartment complex and pointed him out to her parents, officials said. The girl’s father stopped and confronted the man, preventing him from leaving until deputies arrived.
