Stroke Survivors Get Back Into the Swing of Things with Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center's "Saving Strokes" Event
Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) is
hosting its first annual “Saving Strokes” event. “Saving Strokes” is
an opportunity for stroke survivors to resume their passion for golf; for
others trying golf for the first time following a stroke; and for those to
enjoy a day meeting new people who have experienced similar challenges.
Participants will enjoy:
1) A 30 minute group golf lesson
with a local golf pro
2) An opportunity to participate in chipping and
putting practice
3) Light refreshments
4) A caregiver comfort green
5) Adaptive golf
equipment for individuals who need assistance with balance or require the
ability to “sit” while still being able to play golf
The event,
a program of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, is
also an opportunity to educate people about what strokes are, what the signs of
stroke look like, and what rehabilitation involves for stroke survivors and
their caregivers. The event
is free for all participants.
About
795,000 Americans each year suffer a new or recurrent stroke. That means, on
average, a stroke occurs every 40 seconds. In addition, stroke kills more than
137,000 people a year. That's about one of every 18 deaths, and stroke is the
number four cause of death in the U.S.
