1 Dead In Rollover Crash On SR-242 In Concord

A Pittsburg man was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from a Honda Civic, the California Highway Patrol said.

CONCORD, CA — One person died and another was injured in a solo-vehicle crash late Sunday on state Highway 242 at state Highway 4 in Concord, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash involving a black 1994 Honda Civic was reported at 11:33 p.m. on northbound SR-242 at the connector to SR-4.

The Honda Civic veered from SR-242 northbound and collided with a concrete center divider, CHP said.

The driver then lost control as the Honda tumbled over the center divider and down the center dirt embankment and landed on its roof within the southbound lanes of SR-242, according to the CHP.

The driver, a 22-year-old Concord man, was wearing his seat belt and suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.

However, a Pittsburg man who was riding as the passenger was not properly restrained and was ejected from the Honda onto southbound SR-242, where he was hit by a passing vehicle, the CHP said.

The Pittsburg man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

The fatal incident was still under investigation Monday but CHP said it believe drugs or alcohol were factors.
