LOOK: Horses Get Loose, Run Wild On I-680 Freeway In Contra Costa

Two horses running loose in Contra Costa County found their way onto a highway Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- Two horses running loose in Contra Costa County found their way onto a highway Monday morning, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

At 7:25 a.m. on March 27, the CHP received a call about two loose horses wandering the streets of the unincorporated Contra Costa community of Alamo. CHP units located the horses, which evaded officers for about 20 minutes before making their way onto Interstate Highway 680.

The northbound side of the highway was closed for about 15 minutes, CHP officials said.

At about 8:30 a.m., CHP units, Walnut Creek police and county Animal Control units were able to corral the horses. Animal Control officials returned the horses safely to their owner, CHP officials said.
