Here are the top stories in Concord today:
- Contra Costa County Fire Protection District announced it has reduced initial vegetation fire responses to a single fire engine because of recent precipitation and the expectation of further imminent precipitation. This year's period of seasonal fire danger lasted 193 days. Most wildfires in 2021 in Contra Costa County were held to 10 acres or less. (East County Today)
- Contra Costa County Fire units were at the scene of a commercial fire in Concord Tuesday night. The fire at an auto repair shop on Detroit Avenue at Walters Way was first reported around 5:35 p.m. Tuesday evening. Concord police tweeted that westbound Monument Boulevard had been shut down at Walters Way. Traffic was being affected in the busy commute corridor. By around 7:15 p.m., Concord police confirmed that all lanes of Monument Boulevard had reopened. (CBS San Francisco)
- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.8 struck on Wednesday in the Danville/San Ramon area. The quake struck at 11:43 a.m., followed by an aftershock measuring 2.6 magnitude at 11:46 a.m. A third aftershock with 3.0 magnitude struck at 11:58 a.m. Preliminary data from the USGS showed the quake struck an area off El Capitan Drive just west of Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville close to the border with San Ramon. Following the quake, BART trains were held briefly and tracks were inspected, which is standard operating procedure following earthquakes. There were no immediate reports of any damage or injuries. - The second annual Concord Taco Trail Challenge has officially wrapped up. A total of five competitors successfully completed the full passport trail of 47 check-in locations! Visit Concord recently honored the group at a special event at the Concord Visitor Center in Todos Santos Plaza. (Pioneer Publishers)
- The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors approved most of the recommendations on how to spend initial Measure X funding, but couldn't agree on funding extra sheriff's patrols in unincorporated areas or immediate one-time funding for most of the recommended capital projects. Measure X is a half-cent sales tax approved by Contra Costa voters in 2020. The money began accruing in April, when the county's Measure X advisory board began meeting. Sales tax revenue generated by the measure is projected to be more than $238 million through the end of fiscal 2022-2023. (Claycord.com)
