Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. The Contra Costa County District Attorney's office has declined to file charges against a 22-year-old Danville man who was driving the vehicle that struck and killed NFL Assistant Coach Greg Knapp in San Ramone on July 17. Knapp succumbed to his injuries in a Walnut Creek hospital on July 22. The name of the driver has not been released publicly. (Danvillesanramon.com)
  2. Amazon recently acquired a large piece of undeveloped land in eastern Pleasanton for about $75 million. The company plans to open a distribution warehouse there. Pleasanton Mayor Karla Brown said that the site is "designed and well-suited for an e-warehouse use. In addition, it helps to separate residential from the dangerous and dirty industrial uses of gravel mining, so I support the Amazon warehouse use in that site," she said. (Pleasanton Weekly)
  3. Wildfire smoke from Southern and Central California is expected to move into the Bay Area, prompting the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to issue an air quality advisory for Friday and Saturday. (Claycord.com)
  4. Three employee groups, Antioch Education Association, Antioch Management Association, and Classified School Employees Association, Antioch Chapter 85 have submitted a no confidence vote against AUSD Board President Ellie Householder. 97.5% of votes cast were in support of a vote of no confidence in Ellie Householder as the President of the AUSD School Board. Only 15 votes were cast in opposition (supporting Householder), representing only 0.02% of the total ballots cast. (East County Today)
  5. Following a one year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Town of Moraga will be resuming its annual Pear and Wine Festival today. Members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be on hand to dedicate a new flagpole at the park. Town officials will additionally be planting a tree to mark the event. Both activities were made possible by a donation from the Moraga Community Foundation, with major funding coming from PG&E and the Eagle Foundation. (News 24/680)
