- Antioch resident Bob Butler was selected as the 2021 Antioch Citizen of the Year for Most Impact, the Antioch Chamber of Commerce announced, this week. Betty Smith, also an Antioch resident and president of the Rivertown Jamboree, was chosen Citizen of the Year for Lifetime Achievement. The winners will be honored at the 2022 Inaugural Gala and Recognition Dinner on March 25. (Antioch Herald)
- Contra Costa County Fire Protection District today announced the graduation of its Fire Recruit Academy 56 and the addition of 27 new probationary firefighters to the District's ranks. The new firefighters will join crews across the District, bolstering ranks that have been challenged by the impacts of the Omicron spike. Speaking at Wednesday evening's graduation ceremony, Fire Chief Lewis T. Broschard III said, "You chose to serve in one of the most honorable and respected professions in the world. You've learned from the best and are now ready to enter the next chapter in that profession. Academy 56, I wish you all the best for long and rewarding fire service careers." (East County Today)
- The process to divide the city of Pleasanton into four districts for future elections is ending with the City Council divided over the final map set for adoption. The council voted 3-2 on Tuesday night to formalize the same majority's earlier endorsement of the "Tangerine" map, with those in favor lauding the boundaries as the best option on the table for representation locally and citywide, while the dissenting councilmembers lamented the fact some key lines were drawn along neighborhood streets and the Ventana Hills community was split. - On Saturday, February 5 at approximately 12:30 pm an altercation occurred in the drive thru line of a McDonald's restaurant in the 2300 block of Macdonald Avenue in Richmond. The alleged suspect was seen on cell phone video throwing items at a vehicle in the drive thru line and then ramming into the victim's vehicle while her young children were inside of it. On Thursday, March 3 the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office filed two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon; two counts of misdemeanor child endangerment; one felony count of assault likely to cause great bodily injury and one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident against Rhyan Hodge, a 29-year-old resident of Bay Point, CA. (East County Today)
- The California Golden Bears are set to host a massive Junior Day this weekend in Berkeley. None will be bigger than the No. 1 player in the Bay Area and in Northern California, Pittsburg quarterback Jaden Rashada, the five-star from the East Bay who had his first Pac-12 offer come from Cal two years ago. They will also have a handful of in-state quarterbacks come in like Miramonte's Luke Duncan. Some of the top running backs in the state of California will be there, including De La Salle's Charles Greer. From the receivers, the two headliners are Top247 members Rashid Williams, the four-star from Pittsburg and Folsom four-star Rico Flores.(247Sports.com)
