Antioch Woman Accused Of Smuggling Meth Into Jail

The arrest culminated a two-month investigation into a tip that a Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputy was helping smuggle meth into a jail.

ANTIOCH, CA — A Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputy and Antioch resident was arrested this week after detectives determined she was helping to smuggle drugs into the Elmwood Correctional Facility on behalf of inmates.

Mayra Rios, 35, was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in lieu of $1-million bail, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Detectives sought a higher bail amount because of her access to funds, potential flight risk and former position of authority.

Her arrest followed a two-month investigation, the sheriff's office said. Detectives were first tipped off in April.
