Arson Suspected In Concord RV Fire

Investigators arrested a woman on suspicion of setting the fire inside the RV.

CONCORD, CA — A woman who has been convicted of arson in the past was arrested in connection with a fire Monday inside an RV parked under state Highway 4 in Concord.

Jade McCoy, a 27-year-old Concord area transient, is accused of setting the fire just before 3:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

The fire on Port Chicago Highway underneath SR-4 was reported by multiple callers at 3:27 p.m.; a battalion chief who responded saw an RV fully involved in fire.

Concord police and the California Highway Patrol also responded.

At 3:42 p.m., the incident commander reported the fire was under control.

No injuries were reported.

"Investigation revealed a woman seen at the scene around the time of the fire to be the likely responsible party," Hill said.

A short while later, around 5 p.m., Concord police officers found McCoy nearby in the area of Olivera Road and Esperanza Drive.

Investigators determined McCoy and her boyfriend had been living in the RV as it was parked under on Port Chicago Highway. Investigators believe the pair were in an argument when McCoy intentionally started the fire, Hill said.

After interviewing McCoy, authorities placed her in handcuffs and took her to the Martinez jail.

The Concord Police Department on Tuesday filed a case against McCoy with the District Attorney's Office.

Contra Costa County jail records show McCoy remained in custody Thursday with her bail set at $250,000.

According to Con Fire, McCoy was on probation from a previous arson conviction for setting an exterior fire in 2019.

"Her possible involvement in other recent fires in the area is currently under investigation," Hill said in a news release Thursday.
