Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- The city of Benicia said Sunday evening it's requiring "all residents and businesses to immediately conserve water" by at least 30 percent, due to a pipeline break at the Benicia Water Treatment Plant. The mandate means homes should not use water for outdoor use, like watering your lawn or washing your car. The city is assuring residents that the water is safe for consumption as they work to find and fix the break. City staff will provide updates on the city's social media sites and the city website. Residents can also check for information by calling a recorded message at (707) 746-4704. (Claycord.com)
- On the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors consent calendar for Tuesday are $250,000 allocations to the Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library, the Walnut Creek Library Foundation and the Clayton Community Library Foundation. "Libraries are a necessary component to a vibrant and healthy community with resources that lead to economic development and community engagement," the report says. "Libraries are resource hubs for community members that usually encourage the accessibility to public transportation, which foster smart growth principles." (Claycord.com)
- The city of Oakley released an investigative report into the actions of former Police Chief Dean Capelletti, who was terminated by the city on Nov. 18. The report found that Capelletti, who was hired in September of 2020, had engaged in a consensual sexual relationship with a subordinate employee and that evidence existed that he made sexually-related comments to a police department employee and of inappropriate touching of a department employee. - The League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley will host a candidate's forum for Contra Costa County District Attorney on Wednesday, May 18 from 7 to 8 p.m. cosponsored by the Rotary Club of the Delta/Antioch, the Delta Association of Realtors and the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. The forum will be held in the conference room of the Delta Association of Realtors located at 3428 Hillcrest Ave, Suite 200, Antioch. (East County Today)
- A proposal to build 573 houses in the east Dublin hills is moving forward following a unanimous City Council approval. The plans from San Ramon developer Trumark Homes would add even more housing and parks across a 165-acre site called East Ranch, near an area where thousands of homes have gone up over the past two decades.
