Bethel Island Construction Worker Released Following Incident

A man run over by a piece of paving equipment Monday afternoon.

BETHEL ISLAND, CA -- A man run over by a piece of paving equipment Monday afternoon on Bethel Island in unincorporated Contra Costa County was a construction worker, according to the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

Early reports indicated that a person injured at a work site in the 3900 block of Willow Road had been run over by a paving machine, but workplace regulators say the equipment in question was in fact "an oiler,"
which is slightly smaller.

When fire crews responded to the scene around 4:45 p.m. Monday, workers told them that the victim had been run over by the machine, and that they had to run him over a second time by backing the machine up to free him.
