Bicyclist Fatally Struck In Concord

A Concord resident was struck and killed by a car early Wednesday on San Miguel Road, police said.

CONCORD, CA — A Concord roadway was closed for more than three hours early Wednesday after a 60-year-old man riding his bicycle was fatally struck by a car and died. The collision was reported at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday on San Miguel Road near Systron Drive, Concord police Sgt. Adam Hart said in a news release.

A 57-year-old Antioch man was the driver of the vehicle and is the one who called to report the crash, Hart said.

Officers as well as San Miguel medical personnel with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to the collision.

The bicyclist, a Concord resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene, Hart said. The man's identity will be released by the coroner's office once his family members are properly notified.

San Miguel Road was closed between Systron Drive and the entrance to a mobile home park at 1080 San Miguel Road for about for about three and a half hours early Wednesday as police investigated the collision and processes the scene for evidence.

"Preliminary investigation has revealed that both the vehicle and the bicyclist were traveling south on San Miguel Road at the time of the collision," Hart said.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

Hart said the driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene. He was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation, the sergeant said.
