Bicyclist Killed In Pittsburg

Police said the cyclist was crossing Kirker Pass Road at Castlewood.

PITTSBURG, CA -- A bicyclist was killed late Friday night when he was struck by a car at the intersection of Kirker Pass Road and Castlewood Drive, Pittsburg police said on social media Saturday. Neither the name nor the age of the victim was available tonight.

Police said the cyclist was crossing Kirker Pass Road at Castlewood, going west, at about 11:25 p.m. Friday, when he was hit by a northbound car. The bicycle was in the crosswalk, police said, but the vehicle driver had the green light.

Officers arrived to find the bicyclist lying in the southbound lanes of Kirker Pass Road, having suffered head injuries. The bicyclist was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he was pronounced dead, Pittsburg police said.

The vehicle driver remained on scene and was cooperative with police. The driver was apparently neither distracted nor impaired when the accident occurred, police said.
