🌱 Brian Wilson & Chicago + Elderly Theft Plot Hits San Ramon

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, neighbors! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine and patchy clouds. High: 68 Low: 44.

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. The rock band Chicago and Brian Wilson have announced a co-headlining U.S. tour. Wilson, during his sets, will be joined on stage by his fellow Beach Boys co-founder Al Jardine, as well as South African singer Blondie Chaplin. The tour is set to make a stop at the Concord Pavillion on June 11, 2022. (Pitchfork)
  2. Patch is on a quest to find the Best Holiday Lights In America, and the title could go to one of the twinkling displays that make Concord such a magical place at this time of the year.

(We'll throw in a stocking full of Patch swag, too.) (Concord Patch)
  3. Contra Costa District Attorney candidate Mary Knox says she has a plan to combat smash & grab retail theft. She has a multi-step plan that she has outlined. In summary, her statement said "As District Attorney, I will actively engage and educate our community members about the crime occurring in our county and ways we can work together to combat it, such as not buying merchandise off the internet that does not have a means of guaranteeing that it is not stolen merchandise. I will also work with retail stores to modify their return/exchange policies to ensure that they are not accepting the return of their own stolen merchandise." (Claycord.com)
  4. San Ramon police investigators are looking into an unusual jewelry robbery at Mosaic Park in their city at the same time police in Berkeley and apparently other Bay Area locations are searching for a group of thieves using remarkably similar distraction and grab tactics to victimize older residents walking alone while wearing expensive jewelry. Further investigation determined there were similar cases in Pleasanton, Brentwood and Alameda as well. In San Ramon, a suspect struck up a conversation with her elderly victim from the backseat of a car. After the short conversation, the suspect exited the vehicle and used a sleight-of-hand technique to remove the victim's necklace and bracelets before getting back into the car and driving away. Police expressed concern that the thieves were targeting elderly individuals wearing expensive jewelry and watches while out for walks by themselves. The elderly should be aware and remove expensive jewelry prior to venturing out on foot by themselves. (News 24/680)
  5. Today, the Walnut Creek City Council will hold a special meeting to receive an update regarding the organized retail theft that occurred on November 20 and will authorize sending letters seeking additional resources to prevent and address future organized retail thefts and other types of criminal activity. In total, a staff report recommend that approximately $2 million of the remaining ARPA funds be allocated to support these four recommendations. (East County Today)
