Brush Fire Burns Near Mallard Reservoir Near Concord

Officials believe blaze near Bates Avenue was sparked by mowing.

CONCORD, CA – A two-alarm vegetation fire is burning near Concord this afternoon, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman said.

The grass fire was reported at 1:19 p.m. north of the Mallard Reservoir near Bates Avenue.

No buildings appear to be threatened in the area, but PG&E was called because power poles were possibly burning in the blaze, fire spokesman Steve Hill said.

The fire was apparently sparked by mowing in the area, Hill said.

It was still burning as of 2 p.m.
