Brush Fire Closes Lanes On State Highway 4 In North Concord

CONCORD, CA — The Point Fire, which broke out Tuesday afternoon along eastbound state Highway 4 at Willow Pass Road in north Concord, was 30 acres and 100-percent contained by 7:30 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

The brush fire started burning about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday; at 2:57 p.m., a sig-alert was issued for eastbound SR-4 because the number three and four lanes, as well as the Willow Pass Road offramp from the highway, were shut down, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At 3:35 p.m., the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District reported the blaze was 15 acres and "not controlled."

By 4:06 p.m., however, firefighters gained the upper hand on the 15- to 20-acre Point Fire by stopping its forward progress, Cal Fire reported.

The number three lane of eastbound SR-4 was reopened by 4:10 p.m., CHP reported, but the eastbound number four (slow) lane and Willow Pass Road offramp from eastbound SR-4 remained closed.

The closures have since been lifted.
