Here are the top five stories today in Concord:
- The Contra Costa Community College District's governing board on Tuesday unanimously placed district chancellor Bryan Reece on administrative leave due to "personnel matters," the district said in a statement. It's the second time the district has put Reece on leave since he started the job on Sept. 1, 2020. Former CCC president Mojdeh Mehdizadeh — currently the district's executive vice chancellor of education and technology — will take over for Reece as acting chancellor. (Claycord.com)
- With 80% of all county residents now fully vaccinated, Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) on Friday lifted its health order requiring certain businesses, including restaurants and gyms, to verify the vaccination status or recent negative test results of customers. Current state health orders still require proof of vaccination or a recent, negative test result in certain situations, including when visiting hospitals or long-term care facilities, or attending indoor "mega events" of 500 or more people. Other state and countywide health orders also remain in effect. (Claycord.com)
- A popular Oakland restauranteur and Moraga resident critically injured in a parking lot shoving match outside SoFi stadium in Los Angeles the day of the NFC Championship game remains in a medically induced coma Friday. His alleged assailant was arrested and later released as the investigation into the incident continues. Daniel Luna, 40, owner/chef of Mistura – a Peruvian restaurant on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland – was hospitalized after he was found bleeding in the stadium parking lot about half an hour into the Rams-49ers contest last Sunday, authorities said. - A group of about 300 car culturists rolled through southern Solano County overnight, descending on the city of Benicia and engaging in light looting and high-speed games of tag with law enforcement into the early morning. Benicia police arrived and some cars scattered onto nearby roads and highways in a game of cat-and-mouse that spread into Contra Costa and Alameda counties. (News 24/680)
