Concord Bank Robbery Suspect Caught Within Minutes, Police Say

BREAKING: Witnesses provided a detailed description of the suspect, whom police then spotted about a half-mile from the scene.

CONCORD, CA — The suspect in a bank robbery Monday in Concord was quickly apprehended thanks to witnesses, police said. The robbery was reported at about 2:50 p.m. at Bank of America, 2020 Willow Pass Road in downtown Concord, according to the Concord Police Department. Officers who were dispatched to the scene learned a suspect had entered the bank, demanded money from a teller and then walked away from the branch.

Police said bank employees and witnesses provided a "very detailed description" of the suspect, whom an officer spotted a few minutes later in the area of Grant and Oak streets.

Witnesses positively identified the suspect, who was determined to be Robert Waterman, a Concord resident, police said.

Waterman was arrested and booked into Contra Costa County jail on suspicion of committing the robbery.

No one was injured during the incident, according to police, and an undisclosed amount of money taken during the robbery was returned to the bank.
