Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- The Concord City Council will hold its annual city priorities workshop Saturday. The council at the 9:30 a.m. meeting at the Concord Senior Center's Wisteria Hall will discuss Tier 1 priorities over the next 15 months. Those priorities include the city's long-term fiscal stability, the former Concord Naval Weapons Station, public safety, infrastructure maintenance, organization health and employee success, quality of life, and customer service. The workshop is meant to create consensus on what the city's priorities should be moving forward, with allotted time for public comment. (Claycord.com)
- The Shortcut Pipeline – the primary source of drinking water for Martinez that needs fixing – got a boost Tuesday from the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. The board officially added its backing to the Contra Costa Water District's (CCWD) pursuit of grant funding for the $14 million project in the form of a letter of support. (Claycord.com)
- The Local Reuse Authority (LRA) is extending the Preliminary Stage negotiating period under the Exclusive Agreement to Negotiate with Concord First Partners, LLC (CFP) — master developer of the former Concord Naval Weapons Station — for 30 days to finalize a Term Sheet for City Council consideration. The Preliminary Stage will now expire on May 25. (Pioneer Publishers)
- When it comes to dining in the street, Walnut Creek continues to struggle with a permanent policy. At the March 15 council meeting, the city's economic development team presented ways to integrate permanent structures into the streetscape. Key takeaways included: establishing design standards, limiting POD space to the area directly in front of the restaurant, charging restaurants for use of public parking spaces, and potentially opening Bonanza Street to two-way traffic, while keeping Lincoln Avenue (between Main & Broadway) closed permanently. Complications that the city is grappling with include loss of revenue due to public parking spaces being utilized by diners, and EBMUD's project to replace water pipes on Locust Street. - For two young Lamorinda students, the five-time Tony Award winning memoir "Fun Home" marks their professional theatrical debut at the Gateway Theatre in San Francisco. Orinda Intermediate School 6th grader McKenna Rose plays the precocious and highly opinionated Small Alison and St. Perpetua School 4th grader Keenan Moran, plays her energetic younger brother John. "Fun Home" runs Wednesdays – Sundays from April 21 through May 8 at the Gateway Theatre, 215 Jackson Street, San Francisco. Tickets are available now at www.42ndstmoon.org. (The Orinda News)
