Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Someone in Concord definitely had a lot more to be thankful for on Thanksgiving, as they won more than $175,000 playing the Fantasy 5 state lottery game at a convenience store there, officials said. The player, who has yet to be identified, picked the five winning numbers on a ticket submitted Thursday night at the 7-Eleven, 1097 Mohr Lane and won $175,079, officials said. (usanewssite.com)
  2. A person died in an apparent auto vs. bicycle collision in the 500 block of Moraga Road Friday. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:29 a.m. Police quickly shut down Moraga Road in both directions to facilitate their investigation into the fatal crash. (News 24/680)
  3. A popular Lafayette holiday tradition, 𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐚 𝐖𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 is designed as a time to share holiday cheer and celebrate the wonderful community. Santa arrives on Lafayette Historical Society's Firetruck, Old Betsy, at 4:30 pm on December 5. Tree lighting will be at 5:30 pm. Free live performances, free kids' activities, and free photos ops abound. Food will be available for purchase. (News 24/680)
  4. Here is a look at upcoming events in East Contra Costa County which kicks off with a couple events at local wineries and Saturday night with the Brentwood Annual Holiday Parade and Brentwood Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. (East County Today)
  5. At 6:53 am Friday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire behind a church in the 300 block of E 12th Street in the City of Pittsburg. The incident was raised to a 2-alarm response after a two-story building under construction caught fire and was threatening the church. As of 8:24 am, the fire was knocked down. (East County Today)

  • A night of North Indian classical music and South Indian dance will take place Dec. 11 at Piedmont Center for the Arts, 801 Magnolia Avenue, Piedmont. Dr. Michael Lewis, a 30-year Orinda resident, will play tabla, alongside Steve Oda, an exceptionally talented sarode player and Pushpa Oda on tanpura. Kali Futnani, a Bharatanatyam dancer, will also perform. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and costs $20. Masks and vaccination cards required.
