Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Regular unleaded gas prices hit an all-time high Tuesday in the East Bay as prices continued to climb across the country, according to an analysis by AAA. The average price for regular unleaded gas in Contra Costa County was $4.73 per gallon as of Tuesday. By comparison, the national average was $3.42 per gallon. The Golden State's average was $4.63 per gallon. (Concord Patch)
  2. College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association's (CSCAA) has named 100 Greatest Swimmers & Divers of the past century and Concord's Natalie Coughlin made the list! Coughlin captured twelve individual NCAA titles and twelve more Olympic medals over her illustrious career. Coughlin was also the 2003 Women's Sports Foundation Sportswoman-of-the-Year, the 2002 USA Swimming Athlete-of-the-Year, and the 2002 Swimming World female World Swimmer-of-the-Year.   3. According to statements by BART police, a woman told officers Nov. 5 that she had been raped two days earlier in a parking lot at the Concord station. The woman knew her attacker and investigators shared his name in a bulletin to other law-enforcement agencies after the woman confirmed his identity in a photo lineup. An alert officer recognized the man arrested him near the station on Saturday. The man is in custody without bond at Martinez county jail.   4. A suspect has been arrested on murder charges after he allegedly stabbed his mom to death in Walnut Creek Monday morning, according to police. A woman in the 2600 block of Jones Road called police saying she needed help because she had just been stabbed. The victim, identified as 74-year-old Darlene Roth, died at the hospital a short time later. Her son has been taken into custody, accused of the crime. (Claycord.com)
  5. The East Bay Regional Park District honors active and retired military members on Veterans Day with free access and parking at Regional Parks. Fee waiver only covers parking and park entry. Fee waiver does not include dog fees, boat launch or inspection fees, fishing permits, or concessions, such as merry-go-round, train, etc. (East County Today)
