CONCORD, CA — A Concord man who volunteers with children in the community was arrested this week on suspicion of possession of child pornography. An investigation of Preston Brumley, 44, started after the Concord Police Department Special Victims Unit received a tip from a regional internet safety task force, according to Concord police Cpl. David Petty.

"Wednesday at 9 a.m., detectives served a search warrant at his residence, came across explicit photos and made the arrest right there on the spot," Petty said Friday in a phone interview with Patch.

Brumley was arrested, then released pending the completion of Concord PD's investigation and the filing of formal charges, Petty said.

Concord PD is not currently disclosing where Brumley volunteers — or did volunteer — but comments made on the PD's Facebook page indicated Brumley may have served at a local church.

"Brumley volunteers with children in the community so we are reaching out as a public safety alert," Concord police said in the Facebook post. "If you think Brumley has had any type of inappropriate contact with your child, you are strongly encouraged to make a report by contacting the Concord Police Department at [925] 671-3333."

Since the PD's initial Facebook post, police say several parents have reached out to them regarding Brumley's interaction with their child.

"Specifically, they [parents] don't want or need to make a police report, but are worried he may be possession of pictures of their child," police said.

Any other concerned parents or guardians who have not already reached out to police are asked to email a photo containing a face shot of their child to Kaitlyn.Revel@cityofconcord.org. The email should include contact information for the parent/guardian so that if any pictures of their child are found, Detective Revel can follow up for further investigation.

Police are still going through the alleged evidence seized Wednesday in the search of Brumley's residence but Petty said it is mainly photos. Thus far, none of the photos have any direct connection to any victims in the city of Concord, Petty told Patch.

"We know these type of cases are worrisome to all families with young children," police said in their Facebook post. "Please be reassured we are doing all we can to make sure this case is thoroughly investigated and justice is brought forth for the victims and their families."
