🌱 Concord's Speed Racer + When It Rains It Pours + Armed Robbery
Welcome to the Concord Daily! This is your go-to for all things going on in Concord.

Good morning, neighbors! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily.
First, today's weather:
Mostly cloudy, showers around. High: 66 Low: 59.
Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Concord's very own Damion Gardner will be in action at today's USAC/CRA race at Perris Speedway in SoCal. Gardner is the current superstar on the sprint car track and he has a chance of beating the all-time record number of wins on the circuit within the year. (Speedway Digest)
- By Sunday morning, rain will become heavy in the North Bay as the long-awaited atmospheric river takes aim at Northern California, drifting south through the East Bay and Bay Area during the day Sunday, forecasters with the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area said in a special weather statement Thursday. The special weather statement applies to the cities and communities of Oakland, Fremont, Hayward, Daly City, Berkeley, Concord, Antioch, Livermore, Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, Pittsburg, San Ramon and Blackhawk. (Concord Patch)
- Concord's hometown basketball phenom Chris Bunch has chosen Syracuse over Rutgers and Washington, to be his college destination, the CBS Sports App. reported on Thursday. Bunch is considered one of the better perimeter shooters for a wing man in the Class of 2022. He is rated as the nation's No. 58 player by 247Sports. (CalBearsMaven)
- A pair of armed robbers, one of them wielding a shotgun, are believed to have struck three locations in Concord and Martinez Thursday, ordering their victims to the floor before making off with an undetermined amount of money. The pair were still at large as of Friday morning. (News 24/680)
- On October 14th, officers were dispatched to a panic/duress alarm at California Check Cashing, located at 172 Atlantic Avenue in the City of Pittsburg. The business stated that a man passed a note to the teller demanding $1000 be placed into an envelope. The man was later identified as 20-year-old Cedric Williams. Monday afternoon, Pittsburg detectives took the criminal complaint to the Pittsburg Superior Court to complete the filing process. Police say the reviewing judge informed detectives he would not be signing the criminal complaint because he felt there was not enough evidence in the case to establish a robbery, despite the fact the district attorney had already reviewed the case and determined there was. The unwillingness of the judge not to sign and complete the criminal complaint process led to Williams being released from jail on Monday evening. (East County Today)
