Contra Costa Community College Board Member John T. Nejedly Dies

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – A 22-year governing board member of the Contra Costa Community College District died over the weekend, according to a district spokesman.

John T. Nejedly was elected to the board in 1994, and was serving his sixth consecutive term, district spokesman Timothy Leong said.

Nejedly represented Ward Four, which includes Blackhawk, Byron, Danville, Diablo, Discovery Bay, San Ramon and parts of Alamo, Antioch, Brentwood, Clayton and Concord.

Nejedly's father was John A. Nejedly, a state senator who represented Contra Costa County from 1969 to 1980. His sister, Mary Piepho, is a member of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. Their brother,
Jim Nejedly, is a board member of the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District.

"Trustee Nejedly was the only board member who worked on the passage of all three District bond campaigns," board member John Marquez said in a statement.

"His construction knowledge and experience provided a sound and critical voice as we modernized our campus facilities to improve the learning environment for students," Marquez said.

Nejedly, a licensed general engineering contractor, an attorney and a real estate broker who lived in San Ramon, is survived by his wife and three children.
