🌱 Contra Costa Con 4 A Hit! + Concord Considers Kirker Pass Renaming

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, everybody! It's me, Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily — here to tell you all the most important things happening in town.I'll get right to it.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 89 Low: 55.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. Eastern Contra Costa County remained under an air quality advisory through Thursday due to smoke from the Marsh Fire in Pittsburg. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District extended its air quality advisory due to the fire, as onshore daytime winds continue to disperse smoke over the cities of Pittsburg, Antioch, Oakley and Brentwood. Millions of gallons of water have been pumped into the fire area from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in an effort to fully extinguish the smoldering embers. (Patch)
  2. John Muir Health has named Mike Thomas as the health system's next president and CEO, effective October 1. Thomas currently serves as executive vice president and Chief Transformation Officer at John Muir Health. He succeeds Cal Knight who is retiring after more than 11 years at John Muir Health and a 40-year career in health care. During his nearly 14-year career at John Muir Health, Thomas has served as president and Chief Administrative Officer of the health system's 244-bed acute care hospital and 73-bed psychiatric hospital in Concord, California. 3. Concord's City Council Committee on Policy Development and Internal Operations will consider renaming the portion of Kirker Pass Road that lies within the City of Concord. Contra Costa County has already made the decision to start the process for renaming the section of road located between the cities of Concord and Pittsburg. The committee will hold a special meeting on August 3 to consider the renaming. It will post the meeting agenda at least 24 hours in advance on the city's website. (Pioneer Publishers)
  4. Television stars Jerry Mathers (Beaver Cleaver of "Leave it To Beaver"), Jon Provost (Timmy from "Lassie") and Charlotte Stewart (Miss Beadle on "Little House on the Prairie") brought in fans in droves to the Contra Costa Con 4 at the Hilton in Concord last Sunday. See pictures of the fun and the cute costume contest winners at this link from The Pioneer. (Pioneer Publishers)
  5. Over 2,000 customers lost power in downtown Lafayette on Thursday. Downtown businesses were affected as stores and street lights lost power due to the PG&E outage. Power was restored by 10:15. (News 24/680)

From my notebook:

  • Explore the Contra Costa Wine Map with influencer and writer, Noel Burgess.🍇 🍷 In the 5th and final stop of the series, visit Residual Sugar Wine Bar at the Veranda. Get the wine map and see the full video here. (Visit Concord via Instagram)
  • August is Child Support Awareness Month. Contra Costa County has updated its enrollment form. The updated enrollment form requires less information, only takes minutes to complete, and can be finalized online — and even over your phone. For those who have thought about enrolling for services in the past but have been discouraged by the lengthy and outdated process, officials encourage you to apply again. The new forms are available at this link. (East County Today)
