Good morning, neighbors! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily.

Here are the top five stories in Concord today:

  1. BART closed the Orinda Station on Monday afternoon at approximately 4:40 p.m. for what a spokesperson is calling an "major medical emergency." The BART spokesperson confirmed that there was a person "in the trackway." A spokesperson for BART said that the agency would be taking a train out of service and going down to one track in both directions at the Orinda Station. (Claycord.com)
  2. Two-time U.S. Champion figure skater Alysa Liu of Contra Costa is competing in her first Olympics in women's singles at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, this month. She now trains in Colorado Springs with Christy Krall, Drew Meekins and Viktor Pfeifer, and represents the St. Moritz Ice Skating Club in Oakland, joining their list of champions which includes Kristi Yamaguchi and Rudy Galindo. According to a Jan. 31, 2022 USA Today report, she "successfully petitioned her way onto the Olympic team after a strong first season on the senior international circuit"…and "probably has the best chance of any U.S. women of sneaking onto the podium, which the Russians are expected to sweep." (Contra Costa Herald)
  3. De La Salle tight end Cooper Flanagan has been selected to play in the 2023 Polynesian Bowl, it was announced on Tuesday. It is the second year in a row and the third time in the last four games that a player from De La Salle was selected to play in Honolulu. Flanagan said he was flattered with the invite. "It's just a huge honor to be selected for an all-star game and be recognized for all the work that you put in over the years," said Flanagan. A four-star in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, Flanagan is a top 100 prospect per 247Sports, ranking as the No. 7 tight end nationally and the No. 10 prospect in the state of California. 4. The City of Antioch is attempting to terminate its lease with Congressman Jerry McNerney so it can place its new Office of Community Resources. McNerney's office is located at 4703 Lone Tree Way at the Antioch Community Center where he pays $3,000 per month. According to a Public Records Request, the City of Antioch provided 48-pages of email exchanges between city staff, the congressmen staff and communications with Emerald Consulting who also had its lease terminated. McNerney has been in the space since 2013 and his spokesperson has said they believe it is in the best interest of the residents of Antioch to remain in the space and recognized the lease would not be extended beyond January 2, 2023. As of February 8, 2022, it's unclear if there has been any resolution according to the emails provided. The move comes months after Antioch Councilmembers Monica Wilson and Tamisah Torres-Walker held a press conference stating tenants are being harassed and faced eviction while requesting a new protection ordinance. (East County Today)
  5. Following a call to dispatch shortly after 10:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, Antioch Police investigated a silver Chrysler 300 parked on Kodiak Drive with its lights still on, believed to be involved in a hit-and-run. Witnesses said the car had hit a car on Golden Bear Drive before heading down Kodiak and then may have also hit another car on Fawn Hill Way, as well. Antioch Police Officers detained a man outside a multi-family housing complex on Morro Drive, who fit the description of the man seen walking down Kodiak away from the parked car. A witness was driven to that location and positively identified the man as the one walking away from the area of the vehicle. (Antioch Herald)
