Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- Earlier this week, Baseball America released its preseason Top-100 Prospects list with five SF Giants prospects making the cut. Geoff Pontes of Baseball America rated Giants left-handed prospect Kyle Harrison as having one of the best mixes in baseball, which includes a fastball, slider, and changeup. The Giants originally drafted Harrison in the third round of 2020 draft out of De La Salle High School. The young pitching prospect was projected to go in the first round, but slid due to signability concerns. This proved to be in the Giants' favor. (Around the Foghorn)
- The Memorandum of Understanding between the Mt. Diablo Education Association teachers' union (MDEA) and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD) regarding the COVID-19 pandemic is set to expire on Jan. 31. MDEA and the MDUSD District negotiation team last met on Thursday Jan.20 to discuss the expiring MOU, however, no major decisions were made during the meeting. - The Walnut Creek Police Department is continuing its investigation into an attempted carjacking that took place shortly before 8:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23. A Walnut Creek man was sitting in his car parked near Walnut Heights Elementary School, waiting to meet a friend, when three unknown suspects approached the victim and attempted to steal his car, according to police. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the driver and ordered him to exit his vehicle. The victim was able to drive away quickly and was not injured. If you have any information, saw the three suspects around the school, or have video surveillance in the neighborhood, please contact Detective Kim Gerstner at gerstner@walnutcreekpd.com (Claycord.com)
- The City of Brentwood has received a planning application for a Costco Wholesale which has now been added to the latest Development Project List. In the proposal, Costco would be located on the vacant site located just south of Lone Tree Plaza Drive near Kohl's and Home Depot in Brentwood. The city is currently designing the Sand Creek Road extension to Heidorn Ranch Road that will help alleviate any traffic concerns that will be assessed in the review process. (East County Today)
- On Monday 24, 2022 at approximately 2:16 PM, Antioch Police Department Dispatch began receiving numerous 911 calls of gunshots being fired in the area of 2958 Delta Fair Boulevard, the location of Super Wine & Liquor.
