Driver Dies In Solo Crash On Highway 4 Near Concord: CHP

The driver left the roadway and hit the center divider, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CONCORD, CA — A man died early Tuesday in a solo car crash on state Highway 4 near Concord, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash on eastbound SR-4 near Willow Pass Road was reported at 1:57 a.m. Tuesday, the Contra Costa CHP said in a news release.

The vehicle, a red Ford Fusion, was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway and collided with the concrete center divide.

CHP and emergency personnel responded and the driver, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office declined to release the man's identity Tuesday afternoon, as they still hadn't located his next of kin.

"The driver appeared to not be wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision," the CHP said. "This collision is still under investigation, if anyone witnessed it or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, 925-646-4980."
