Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- Firefighters stopped the forward spread of a brush fire Monday morning just south of state Highway 4 in Pittsburg. The Leland Fire was reported at 10:25 a.m. It burned an estimated 7 acres in the hills south of W. Leland and Golf Club and forward progress was stopped by 12:10 p.m., the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said. No structures were threatened and there were no evacuations ordered, officials said. (Concord Patch)
- Grab your popcorn, put your feet up and tune in for "Election Preview" on CCTV! This new programming is a collaboration between Contra Costa County Elections Division, the County's Office of Communications & Media, the League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley and the League of Women Voters of West Contra Costa. You'll get to see discussions about your local candidates and issues prior to heading out to the polls. "The Election Preview offers county residents a non-partisan discussion for our local elections. You can tune in and learn more about candidates and participate in the voting process, so that your voice is heard," said Board Chair, Supervisor Karen Mitchoff. Election Preview's pre-recorded discussions will air on Contra Costa Television (CCTV) channels: Comcast 27, Astound 32, and AT&T U-verse 99. For dates and times, see the TV schedule here. - Firefighters battled a structure fire in the area of Normandy and Ridge lanes late Monday night. Apparently, the fire started on a hillside behind the home and engulfed the pool house on the way to the main structure. No further details were available. (News 24/680)
- It's a food fight in Orinda... but a mild one. Thursday evenings mean food trucks at the Orinda Community Center. The city has partnered with Walnut Creek-based Taste of the World to bring these trucks to you since 2019. The deal is set to expire in November. Some local brick and mortar restaurants are weighing in on the agreement in light of some interruption to their businesses. The mayor has said he would be open to a different night, since some restaurateurs have said Thursday night is a prime business night for them. Most businesses are reporting only mild impacts, and they are invited to participate in the Thursday night festivities as well, if they like. Most trucks are local and a percentage of profits is given back to the community. (The Orinda News)
