Eviction Moratorium Ends + Catalytic Converter Thief Thwarted

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. A De La Salle alum has some awesome choices as he looks to colleges in the Fall. Chris Bunch is being recruited by Rutgers and Syracuse to play for their basketball programs. He is a 4-star wing that 247 Sports ranks No. 58 in the 2022 class and lists No. 72 in their composite rankings comprised of several recruiting services. He has seen a sizable jump up the rankings after a strong showing this summer on the AAU circuit. He's had an official visit to both schools and is looking to go for a second visit as both schools visited him last week. This guy has a bright future ahead of him! (On The Banks)
  2. On a 2 to 3 vote, the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors voted to end the rent hike and eviction moratorium enacted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It would have been the board's ninth extension of the moratorium. Upon casting the swing vote, board chair Diane Burgis of Brentwood said, "I am sympathetic to the folks. It's not perfect. I think we need to move on. The economy has not improved. I want us to get back to work." (Contra Costa Herald)
  3. Firefighters were called to a structure fire at Oak Grove and Treat Blvd. in Concord Wednesday night. The fire went to 2 alarms and the surrounding buildings were evacuated. The fire was extinguished with one person suffering minor injuries. (Claycord.com)
  4. Lafayette is not exempt from the worldwide spike in catalytic converter theft. A thief was thwarted by an alert homeowner on Walnut Avenue in Lafayette at about 4:40 AM on Thursday. Police were called and they ringed the area, but the suspect was not caught. Fortunately, the homeowner chased him away before he was able to steal the converter. (News 24/680)
  5. A petty thief is now a wanted man. A man who committed a petty theft in Dublin chose to run from police - in a stolen car. He crashed the car in Alamo and continued on foot. Police were organizing a search at the time of this writing. (News 24/680)
