First, today's weather:

Clear throughout the day. High: 95 Low: 65.

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Today, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors will consider adopting a new urgency ordinance extending the temporary prohibition on certain evictions of residential tenants impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The current ordinance is set to expire Sept. 30. If adopted, the ordinance would extend the county's temporary prohibition on no-fault evictions of residential tenants and the prohibition on evicting tenants for allowing an unauthorized tenant to live in their dwelling unit if the unauthorized person is an immediate family member living there because of the pandemic. Other provisions of the current ordinance would not, necessarily, be extended. The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors meets virtually at 9 a.m. and can be seen at www.contracosta.ca.gov. (Claycord News & Talk)
  2. The Contra Costa District Attorney, along with 33 other California District Attorneys, has reached a settlement with Ulta Beauty, Inc., Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance, Inc., Ulta, Inc., and Possibilities AB, Inc., (collectively referred to as "Ulta") for violations of hazardous waste regulations. Ulta has five stores in Contra Costa County. Since being charged, Ulta has updated its policies and training programs designed to improve the handing of hazardous and other waste. Under the settlement the corporations must pay $439,500 in civil penalties, $250,000 in costs and $62,500 in supplemental environmental projects. (News 24/680)
  3. The new Concord Visitors Center has finally held its ribbon cutting ceremony after a long delay due to the pandemic. Conveniently located in the heart of Concord's historic downtown in Todos Santos Plaza the center is welcoming visitors from far and wide in its beautiful new digs. (Pioneer Publishers)
  4. Pleasanton Police have a mystery on its hands. Authorities responded, Saturday, to a report of a person in a vehicle on I-580 . When they arrived at the scene they found a male and a female in the vehicle, both deceased. Based on the condition of the bodies, they had been there for about a week. At this point, they are not suspecting foul play, but the investigation is ongoing and they are not ruling anything out. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Pleasanton Police Department at (925) 931-5100. (News 24/680)
  5. The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office will launch a fourth Community Academy class this October, and you're invited! The academy is free and is open to residents who live or work in Contra Costa County. Individuals must complete an application and background check when they apply. Admitted applicants can expect to learn how cases are filed, the different types of crimes our office investigates and prosecutes, and the work we do not only prosecuting cases but also the community outreach efforts underway to prevent crime and to support children, parents and crime victims.
