Welcome back, Concord! Let's get this Sunday started off right. Here's everything you need to know about what's happening around town today.

First, today's weather:

Fog to sun. High: 67 Low: 47.

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Chanukah is known as the Festival of Lights, because it commemorates the traditional account of the miracle of finding one cruse of sacred oil — enough for one day — that lasted for eight days, the length of time it took to produce more sanctified oil for the N'er Tamid (Eternal Light) in the Temple. To remember that miracle, menorahs holding eight candles are lit, one per night, during the Chanukah celebration. You're invited to come, celebrate the Festival of Lights with Chabad of the Delta and our surrounding communities as we light the Grand Menorah during the Community Celebration on Sunday December 5 at 4:30 pm at Brentwood City Park. (Contra Costa Herald)

Police said the shooting occurred at approximately 8:30 am in the area of Gentytown Drive and Johnson Drive. The shooting did not appear to be self inflicted. No other information was provided. (East County Today)
  3. At 11:15 am Friday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a suspicious fire in the 3900 block of Humming Bird Road in the City of Antioch that led to an arson arrest. crews responded to a smoke condition at a home. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered there had been a dispute and a female poured gas in the back of the home and set it on fire. (East County Today)
  4. Having celebrated "Wreaths Around Town" since 2011, members of the Orinda Garden Club will continue the tradition when they hang 55 decorated wreaths throughout the village Saturday, Dec. 4. The decorations that help beautify the community and celebrate the holidays, will come down Jan. 8 with the assistance of Orinda Boy Scout Troop 237. Scouts will disassemble the trees and wreaths for appropriate recycling. (The Orinda News)
  5. A car speeding through Lafayette on Highway 24 left the freeway and crashed in the area of Sierra Vista and Deer Hill Road early Saturday. Calls about two men seen fleeing the non-operable car reached police, who quickly flooded the area at approximately 10 a.m. One man was apprehended at gunpoint on Serrano Court.
