🌱 Generous Toy Aritsan + Strange Trailer Parking + Vape Ban

Your five-minute guide to all things going on today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Hey, Concord! Here's everything you need to know to get this Thursday started. These are the most important things happening in town today.

First, today's weather:

A morning shower; some sun. High: 70 Low: 49.

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. In an update to a story from yesterday, the Walnut Creek City Council on Tuesday unanimously voted to ban the sale of flavored tobacco and electronic smoking devices within city limits. "I'm proud that Walnut Creek continues to lead by example in areas of safety for our community, in this case banning sales of flavored vape products and e-cigarette devices," Mayor Kevin Wilk said, after the meeting. (Claycord.com)
  2. Local artisan Les Ruefenacht is ready to once again turn his attention to toymaking this Christmas season. Known for his small wooden "Buddy Dogs," Ruefenacht was able to donate 200 toys last year to Toys for Tots, Salvation Army and other organizations. He has a new plan for this holiday season and is asking for $25 donations from individuals who will sponsor a gift for a child. (Pioneer Publishers)
  3. Contra Costa County will be issuing a road closure permit to East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) to fully close a portion of Sunset Drive, between Franciscan Way & Arlington Avenue and Highgate Road, between Sunset Drive & Edwin Drive, and Highgate Court in Kensington. Traffic will be detoured via neighboring streets. Work will begin on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 and last through June 2022, barring unforeseen circumstances. The purpose of this road closure is for EBMUD to install approximately 5,165 feet of 6-inch and 8-inch Earthquake Resistant Ductile Iron (ERDIP) water main. (Contra Costa Herald)
  4. Contra Costa County Public Works closed a portion of Morgan Territory Road between the Morgan Territory Regional Preserve Staging Area to a location approximately one-mile north of the staging area due to an abandoned trailer. Translation: some guy parked his huge trailer across the road, blocking the whole darn thing! For some reason, he thought it was a good idea to just leave it there and be on his way. California Highway Patrol is working to locate the trailer owner to get it removed as soon as possible. Good idea. (East County Today)
  5. Orinda police are looking for two men suspected of entering a home on Bates Boulevard at about 4:15 p.m. Monday. The homeowner interrupted the burglary and the perpetrators fled. No further information was provided. (News 24/680)
