Health Order Criteria + Antioch Fire + Go Spartans!

Welcome to the Concord Daily— your source for the scoop on everything happening in town.

(Patch Media)

Get on up, Concord! Let's get you all caught up to start this Friday, October 8 off on an informed note. Here's what's happening today in town.

First, today's weather:

Cool with clouds breaking. High: 68 Low: 51.

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. This week's high school football action is headlined by a huge game between Folsom and De La Salle. This one could determine who represents Northern California in the CIF Open Division state championship. The De La Salle Spartans are 4-0 against Folsom since 2012 and have won every game by at least 14 points. We got this! Go Spartans! (MaxPreps)
  2. The Walnut Creek City Council said Tuesday it wants to allow recreational adult-use cannabis sales for delivery only. It will take up the issue of storefront sales within city limits next year. None of the councilmembers wanted to go as far as allowing commercial cultivation within city limits, though. Mayor Kevin Wilk asked staff to try to come back with some guidance on storefront cannabis sales sometime during the next six months. (Claycord.com)
  3. Nine Bay Area jurisdictions that require face coverings in most indoor public spaces today reached consensus on criteria to lift those health orders. Those counties include Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Sonoma and the City of Berkeley. There are three criteria that must be met including reaching the yellow COVID-19 transmission tier, low, stable COVID-19 hospitalizations and either 80% of the population fully vaccinated or eight weeks have passed since a COVID-19 vaccine has been authorized for emergency use by federal and state authorities for 5- to 11-year-olds. (News 24/680)
  4. Firefighters battled a 2-alarm fire on Walter Way in Antioch on Friday morning. It started in a commercial structure and by about 5:00 a.m. it had extended to a nearby home. As of 7:20 a.m., CONFIRE reported the fire with multiple tenants, was under control. No injuries were reported. (East County Today)
  5. On Tuesday night, 2022 recruit Chris Bunch, basketball phenom from Concord, trimmed his final list to three schools: Syracuse, Rutgers and Washington. Bunch is a 6-foot-7 forward. He's currently ranked No. 58 in 247's rankings. (Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician)
