Here are the top five pstories today in Concord:
- Thieves are targeting work trucks in the Concord area and around the rest of the Bay. A Concord man is sending a warning to the community after his dash cam caught the moment two people broke into his work truck and stole thousands of dollars worth of tools. Concord police said the city is not immune from the escalating problem of brazen car break-ins, catalytic converter thefts and property crimes. (NBC Bay Area)
- A Concord middle school teacher has been arrested on suspicion of inappropriate acts with minors, Mt. Diablo Unified School District's superintendent announced Thursday.
Dean Walker, who was teaching at Pine Hollow Middle School was taken into custody on suspicion of multiple felony and misdemeanor counts. Concord police notified the school district of the arrest Thursday, Superintendent Adam Clark said in a letter to district parents and staff. Anyone with information about the case is being asked to call Concord Police Detective Demott at 925-603-5851. (Patch) - Have you thought about bringing a furry friend into your home? Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS) will be offering $25 adoptions of all animals through May 14 as part of the Bissell Pet Foundation's "Empty the Shelter" adoption campaign. "You will get the most loving pet who will literally change your life because it's so grateful to be loved. I want every person to know they can be part of the solution if they adopt a shelter pet."said Cathy Bissell, founder of the Bissell Pet Foundation. - Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire) recently announced return to full fire responses for all grass, vegetation and wildland fires across the district because of the early arrival of seasonal fire weather. The most important things homeowners can do to help are weed abatement and creating a defensible space. Detailed information on protecting homes and businesses from wildfire dangers, including weed abatement deadlines and preparing now for the possibility of evacuation can be found on the district's website at www.cccfpd.org. - Evangeline Ward, 50, of Concord, has been appointed to the California Board of Accountancy by Governor Gavin Newsom. Ward has been a dental hygiene instructor at the Contra Costa Community College District Diablo Valley College since 2015. She has been a registered dental hygienist at Richard Tabor DDS since 2014. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is a $100 per diem. Ward is a Democrat. (Office of Governor Gavin Newsom)

- The annual Antioch Memorial Day Commemoration on Monday, May 30, will begin with a processional from the Veterans Memorial at the foot of L Street at 9:00 AM and arrive at the Oak View Memorial Park at 2500 E. 18th Street for the ceremony which begins at 10:00 AM. (Antioch Herald)
- This one impacts youth all over the country, but the San Francisco FBI is warning of an increase in sextortion in the Bay Area, so I wanted Concord parents to be aware. The FBI is receiving an increasing number of reports of adults posing as young girls coercing young boys through social media to produce sexual images and videos and then extorting money from them. Please, tell your kids to be vigilant and keep their clothes on in pictures they send over the internet. (East County Today)
